Pro-Democracy Convention in Philadelphia
I am back in Oklahoma following the Pro Democracy Convention that was
held in Philadelphia last weekend. It was a wonderful, informative few
days spent in the "Birthplace of Democracy". This inspiring city's image
was then tarnished by bush's appearance at Independence Hall on July 4th.
I was unable to stay for the planned protest but I hope that the "Defenders
of Democracy" turned out in full force to protest the Coup. It was great
to see Lou Posner and Joe Landry(who entertained all with his unique music)
from Voter March and to meet many new allies from across this country.
The convention offered so much information on building our movement, but
the time allowed was very short with so much to learn. A wide range of
speakers from Union and Civil Rights leaders to Prison reform Activists
presented workshops covering many topics. Workshops were held Saturday
on subjects like
"Instant Runoff Voting"
"Clean Money Elections"
"Abolishing the Electoral College"
"Restoring Voting Rights to Ex Felons"
"Enforcement and Extension of the Voters Rights Act" and several others.
We were able to meet and talk with Granny D and Phil Berg. There was just
not enough time to digest of all the information available. I returned
home with enough reading material to keep me busy for a few days. I will
be happy to share any information that I received with anyone who is interested.
I left Philadelphia feeling energized and more hopeful that many more
people from across America are joining the fight. I will try and post
more on Individual topics when I get caught up. If anyone would like more
information on a certain workshop please feel free to email me and I will
share what I have.
In Solidarity
